There’s something different about playing airsoft in Montana.
You’re not walking into a perfectly manicured indoor arena with four walls and a ceiling. At Salvo Airsoft, you’re stepping into the Montana landscape—brush, trees, uneven ground, open areas, and plenty of places to disappear when the game gets going.
Whether you’re a longtime airsoft player or someone who has never picked up an airsoft gun before, a day at Salvo is about more than just shooting BBs. It’s about getting outside, playing hard, meeting people, and helping build something that’s still growing.
Here’s what a typical day at Salvo looks like.
Getting to the Field
Salvo Airsoft is located in the Livingston area of Montana, surrounded by the kind of landscape that makes you forget you’re only there for the day.
The field itself is constantly evolving. We’re clearing paths, improving bases, building structures, adding signs, and finding new ways to make the terrain more interesting.
One of the things we like most about Salvo is that the field isn't supposed to feel finished.
Think of it like an airsoft field that gets its own expansion packs.
New areas, new objectives, new terrain and new ideas can be added over time. Players aren't just showing up to play on a finished product—they're helping shape what Salvo becomes.
Before the Games Start
Once you arrive, there are a few things to take care of before getting on the field.
First, everyone needs to complete the required online waiver.
Safety is a major part of what we do. Full-seal eye protection is required on the field, meaning your eye protection needs to properly seal around your eyes with no open gaps. Face protection is strongly recommended as well. You will get shot and BBS do hurt!
You'll also want to make sure your equipment is ready, your magazines are loaded, and you're familiar with the field rules and game plan for the day.
If you're new, don't worry about showing up without a full arsenal of gear. Salvo is built around bringing people together, and experienced players are generally more than happy to help newer players figure things out. We have rentals and everything required for a day of play.
Then the Shooting Starts
Once everyone is geared up, it's time to play.
Game days can include different game modes and objectives depending on the group and the plan for the day. Team Deathmatch-style games, objective-based games, and other scenarios can turn the same piece of terrain into a completely different experience.
One minute you're moving through the brush trying to reach an objective.
The next, you're pinned down behind cover wondering where the other team is.
Then someone finally makes a move—and suddenly the entire game changes.
That's one of the things that makes outdoor airsoft so much fun. You aren't just reacting to what's directly in front of you. You're listening, communicating with your teammates, watching the terrain and trying to figure out what the other team is doing.
The Terrain Is Part of the Game
The field at Salvo isn't just a backdrop.
The terrain is part of the gameplay.
There are wooded and brush-covered areas, paths, open sections, bases and natural obstacles. A creek runs through part of the play area, and we're continuing to work on ways to make the terrain more playable without destroying what makes it unique.
It's About the People
The biggest thing we're trying to build at Salvo isn't just a field.
It's a community.
Before Salvo existed, many of us were playing pickup games with local players and meeting through online groups. The idea behind Salvo grew from wanting to create a place where people could consistently get together and play.
Some players will show up with years of experience.
Others may be picking up an airsoft rifle for the first time.
That's okay.
You don't have to be the best player on the field. You don't need the most expensive equipment. You don't need to know everyone when you arrive.
Show up, play fair, communicate with your team and have a good attitude.
That's what makes a game day enjoyable.
A Montana Airsoft Field That's Still Growing
Salvo Airsoft is a work in progress—and that's intentional.
We're building paths.
We're improving bases.
We're clearing dead trees and brush.
We're adding signs.
We're experimenting with new game modes and objectives.
And we're listening to the people who actually come out and play.
The goal isn't to create a field that never changes. The goal is to keep giving people reasons to come back and see what's different.
Maybe there's a new route through the woods.
Maybe a new base has been built.
Maybe a new objective changes how everyone approaches the field.
Maybe your favorite hiding spot doesn't exist anymore.
That's part of the fun.
